2018 ford f150 stereo upgrade4/6/2024 ![]() I too have been out of the audio upgrade phase for quite some time, but my existing knowledge about how these factory systems work has me concerned that if I simply install higher quality speakers that aren’t of the same spec (impedance, power rating, etc.) that the nicer speakers may actually sound worse than factory. From what I’ve read, a simple change to quality speakers and maybe some baffles will make a huge difference. Thanks for the reply! I’d probably surf Crutchfield for reviews then decide from there. Don’t know what I’ll use as I’ve been out of the car stereo thing for years. I’m waiting for an excuse to replace mine. You’d be shocked at how poorly built the factory speakers are. Thanks in advance for any input provided. I appreciate any input from people who’ve replaced their stock speakers without adding amps and also hearing if the sound improved without losing any low-end frequency response or any other unwanted side effects. Sorry for such a long post but I wanted to give a clear picture of what I’m looking for. My other concern is that I want to make sure that switching from the factory speakers, as basic as they are, doesn’t cause me to lose any built-in low frequency response as the stock system does at least have some bottom end to it. Although out of curiosity I did get a quote from a shop to do a full system in this truck, it’s really not a big enough priority to me to spend thousands on that.Īll of this leads me to this- knowing that the stock system in my 302a truck equipped with the 8” screen is rather basic, low-powered and also has signal processing in it that cuts certain frequencies at higher volume, is there an aftermarket replacement option for the 4 door speakers that provides for improvement in sound and durability over the stock speakers? Right now I’m really not interested in adding an amplifier, cutting wires or anything like that? I know that Crutchfield usually has solutions that provide drop-in replacements via mounting plates and wiring adapters but I haven’t looked into that yet. Therefore I am well-versed in what it takes to get significant improvement to stock audio systems, such as amplifiers, signal processors, etc. Over the years, I have always had high-end aftermarket stereo systems in my vehicles, but have refrained from going down that rabbit hole with this truck. Well it looks like the speaker in the right rear door blew the other day, so before I utilize my Ford ESP to get it replaced (with a $100 deductible) I thought I’d ask about any known quality plug & play replacement solutions.
